I joined the WRNS at the age of 18. Our Captain was Capt. Digby-Best. On the pier at Gourock, Scotland, we dealt with the Merchant Navy and all the Battleships, Destroyers and the Submarines were berthed at Long Loch and Gar Loch. The boom was a barrier for the ships to prevent the German Submarines from coming in. The Americans were based at Roseneath. We dealt with the Army Intelligence and the the Ministry of War Transport was part of our Office. On "Off Duty" we could go fishing in the Lochs on the Yachts Aquarine,Jennetta. My first Husband was Chief Engineer Officer on HMS Sea Rover, who came back flying the Jolly Roger - which signified that they had sunk a German Ship.
My second Husband was a Pilot in Bomber Command, flying a Halifax Bomber.
