I was a child. We lived in Exeter and I remember being bombed out. We moved to Bairstow after that. I remember the Canadian Air Force cemetery (by the house)
My mum would make me take ration coupons to the shop down the street. We used to get a 4oz. packet of tea that had to last a week.
I remember the Americans coming, that had sweets and gum; they introduced us to chewing gum.
I remember being woken up the night and going to the air raid shelter. We thought it was great. An adventure! We would go sit in blankets and curl up together and sleep.
