Upon arriving some time later on at the enemy front-line, some light rain began to fall, the first since arriving in North Africa,when one of their Officers said in true Oxford accent, "Sorry you Englishmen we have no cover for you" obviously
in sarcasm. That Officer confessed that he had in fact been to Oxford University. We then spent the night huddledtogether in order to keep as dry as possible and to keep warm.
Next morning there was an appearance of our own RAF which set about the mass of transport on the track below a large rock under which I was sheltering, and also under a large rock opposite me was a quite young German who was looking absolutely terrified and was visibly trembling. I tried to make a conversation with my best German, but he appeared past conversing in his state of mind.
