My most vivid memory is of my Grandfather holding me up high, the sky was bright red as far as I could see, he told me that the docks were alight. Our house was nine miles out of Liverpool.
Other memories are of my grandparents who had just received word of my Uncle George who had been killed on S.S.Surabeya while serving with the merchant marine.
Also watching the transport of fighter aircraft (with wings folded back), tanks and armed cars down Long Lane toward the docks.
