Dedicated to Dunkirk dead. Written Birmingham 1940
Forget them not, these dreaming English dead.
For us they bore, too soon, the last of ills.
Now clarion cold, a cross at each dear head,
Ever on they sleep in foreign hills.
Oh spare a thought for these, who were but boys,
For freedom's sake they paid the dearest price.
When victory comes, as comes it surely will,
Keep ever green, their utmost sacrifice.
