I was 14 at the time and lived in Bethnal Green. I used to go to Bend Street School and then Cambrook but this has now been turned into flats.
I remember being evacuated to Devon, But this proved to be only short term since Exeter began being bombed. We were then moved back up to London only to find that our house was now a pile of rubble, so we were moved to Hackney.
It was here that I made a best friend. We went to school together and then did war work in Middlesex for a company called "The Jerry Jiroscope Company". One evening I saw rockets being fired overhead. Two doors away a house got hit and so did a section of my best friends house. Some of the debris landed on Sissy's head and she was taken to Chase farm Hospital, Enfield. She was only 21 when she died.
