I joined the RAF volunteers in 1941, I had a badge with letters P-N-B (Pilot Navigator Bomber). I am a treasurer of Manchester鈥檚 AF and a secretary of Bomber Command Association Manchester鈥檚.
I joined the RAF at Liverpool, and subsequently despatched to Padgate London ACRC, Regents Park. We did all PT just round the corner from the Lords鈥 Cricket Ground!
I once saw a beautiful young woman who was smoking a pipe for her man.
In the end of 1943 I went to Europe, but was based in Lincolns 12 squadron, and we were 19 years old. They called us 鈥淪hinning 12鈥.
1945 鈥 I was finishing the operation at Wickenby and went to Binbrooke. I played football by office command against the 11 professionals and the goalkeeper was from Tottenham.
At that time I was studying to progress from a PNB to an air gunner.
