The blackout is my lasting memory of the war. I was 14 when the war started and twenty when it finished. I was an only child, we had Anderson Shelters in the back garden which we used to go in when the sirens went, sometimes you鈥檇 be in there all night. But you鈥檇 go to work next morning as normal. Everyone used to help each other out and I think that鈥檚 how we got through the war. It was difficult because you had food rationing, a lot of men were called up and volunteered; even ladies.
