At the time of Dunkirk I lived in George Street in Reading. I have a very vivid memory of seeing hundreds of wounded soldiers returning from Dunkirk. They arrived at Reading Station and the walking wounded made their way to the Brock Barracks in the town. I stood with my sisters and brother and watched as they went by. Those that were not wounded were filtered out and came in our direction into the local pub. Here the customers bought them drinks and listened to their stories. My dad found four hungry soldiers and brought them home where my mother cooked them a large fry up.
