This is one of those funny things that is sad and really funny at the same time.

My mother, her siblings and mother went to the shelter in her area - near the Rolls Royce factory by the Scrubs in West London.

One of their shelter roomate families had just arrived and as the bombing had started. The wife/mother of the family turned to her husband and stated that she had forgotten her false teeth and must return to their home to collect them. Her indignant husband exclaimed, "It's bloody bombs they are dropping - not sandwiches!" It always amazes me how 'normal' people try to behave in the most abnormal situations.

My mother and her family slept many nights under the dining room table for protection against the bombs
