An Irish Tale
Ernest is an Irish man; he believes many Irishmen served in the war because they saw an opportunity to get away from unemployment and poverty in Ireland.
His father was an Irishman whose job was as an ARP warden who provided air raid warnings. He moved to England to find a job as he couldn’t get one in the area he lived in because he was a protestant. His father was involved in the making of ‘Six Prototype Gliders’ which were used by the Airborne Division. Ernest managed to find remnants of these glides, which he has to this very day.
Ernest did not see much of certain countries because he worked in the German military. Thish focused on big English cities and did not see Ireland as a major strategic point in the war.
The war affected a lot of people; especially families. Ernest experienced this first hand as his parents got divorced 6 years after the war. Ernest had four brothers and three sisters; he was the third child, with two sets of older twins.
Ernest moved to England well after the war but his wife and most of his family still live in Ireland.
