I was walking in Stoke market one Saturday morning as a kid when the sirens sounded. The ARP鈥檚 were shouting for us to get down into the cellars under Stoke market and we all began to rush down the steps.
There was a scream and a woman came running back up the steps. Behind her was the biggest rat I had ever seen. The woman shouted 鈥淚 don鈥檛 care if the German鈥檚 get me but I鈥檓 not sharing a shelter with a bloody rat.鈥
