I lived in Hull during the war and we had lots of German planes night after night.

The first day that war was declared, we had the sirens in place but no air raid shelters. Later, the shelters were provided and we spent most nights there during air raids.

We had to move out of two houses that were bombed and became unfit to live in.

In the town, on one occasion, we were machine gunned in the street by low flying enemy aircraft. That was very scary.
