My memories of the Second World War were my evacuation in 1941 where l was evacuated to Colchester in Essex and spent two and a half years there and very vividly remember my journey with my label on the front of my raincoat and it was a very dramatic journey.

At the end of the war I remember the street parties when all the children were sitting at tables in the centre of the road in Lewisham, London. One of my first memories was eating white stuff which later l found out was ice cream. So that was a very happy memory of eating ice cream for the very first time and the joy of knowing that the war was over and that there was freedom at last.
