I was sent to Austins to do my war work. I was in charge of collecting parts for the trucks for the armed forces.

I also had a dance troop which I carried on during the war. I used to take my girls all over our area to dance to entertain the troops at charity do鈥檚.

One night we went to Wordsley Hospital to entertain some of the injured troops. We entertained at many places. We made all our own costumes which was a really difficult thing to do bearing in mind all the shortages. But the men always seemed to enjoy us!

I also had to do one night a week on fire duty with the fire service at Old Hill. Although luckily we were never called out to put out any fires on my nights!
