I was too young, but my sister can remember, as a child, going to view 3 bomb craters in the Mapperley, Nottingham area. The planes were coming back from bombing Sheffield and mistook the tall buildings of Mapperley Asylum for some kind of industrial buildings. The bomb craters were all in a line, one demolishing a house and killing the occupants, another was a deep hole in the road. However, the one which interested her the most was on the playground area where there were 3 bomb craters with the 3 bombs unexploded and sitting there like sentinals, obviously, this caused great excitement among the children who regularly used the playground.
She can also remember sitting in the bomb shelter in the garden while the sirens were wailing.
