It was in about 1942 or 1943.
I was about 10 or 11 at the time.
I remember 10 to 15 prisoners of war coming to the farm in trucks.
They were working on the drainage and laying water pipes all over the farm.
At first they came with guards. They were doing it by hand with the help of horses and carts.
After a while they drove themselves to the site and as time went on, they cooked their own dinners. (I had some ! They were very good !)
I used to pinch eggs for them.
I enjoyed being with them, as I was quite lonely at the time.
