Obverse of the Defense Medal.

Thankyou.
The postman delivered a little box:
Inside was my Dad’s medal — The Defence Medal

He kept it alongside his St. John’s Medal:

Of course we already had one of these===
At school we were each given a printed card signed by King George VI.
What were the feelings during the war? Adults shielded as best they could but this was total war and often visited our doorstep so - Fear sometimes- worry about people in the services - making ends meet particularly with rationed food - drab grey and gaberdine blue, it was as if colour had drained from the world.
As I complete this and think of all those I knew then I feel like one of the messengers in the Book of Job, in that — I have alone escaped to tell thee.
Pray that you never have to endure War.
