the last time l wrote was about when a flying fortress crashed just short of the runway at christchurch airfield in approx 1943-1944.
The airfield was surrounded with pillboxes and ofcourse barbwire which was not much of a deterrent for a young lad with time on his hands.l was always amazed at the activity of the airfield even though it was not a fighter cammand sort of place.l woke up l think one sunday morning early,l heard a bang on the corner of foxwood ave a semi bungalow stood,a small single airoplane had crashed into the top attic complete with fusalarge
and tailplane sticking out and the amazing thing about it nobody was killed or injured.l used to deliver newpapers around the airport and to mudeforde (The Haven) on the run and on frosty mornings l used to watch the rabbits warming themselfs with the aircrafts warming up.There is or was a barrage balloon at the north end of the field away from the flight path,l used to spend hours watching the troops parachutting from the cage.Oh the memorys of youth,l wonder how people remeber when they read this of MUDEFORD PT.2
