I never discovered who wrote this little verse: but it should ring a few bells with anyone who served in the RAPC during World War II...
From the account which no-one can discover,
From abusive letters from the soldier鈥檚 mother,
From babies born upon a Friday,
And transfers-in, so horribly untidy;
Good Lord deliver us.
From each and every kind of scrutiny,
From tea that drives us near to mutiny,
From Lance-Jacks of Hitlerien mien,
The kind you鈥檇 dearly love to bean,
Good Lord preserve us.
From changes in dependant鈥檚 rates,
From that nasty little man in 358's,
From OAIs and their curious grammar,
Ambiguous both in style and manner,
Good Lord deliver us.
From 3085s which strangely go astray,
From Sergeant鈥檚 wrath which no man can allay,
From the Colonel鈥檚 latest little wheeze,
And the draft which goeth overseas!
Good Lord preserve us.
