The centre piece of our living room was the Morrison shelter (or table shelter). ALthough it was a large structure it was a tight squeeze when the air raid siren went off! Mom (Ellen Adey) made it as comfortable as possible with blankets and pillows but we were always reluctant to climb in. Dad (Alfred Adey) used to stand by the shelter when the siren went off to make sure we all climbed inside, unfortunately there was never enough room for Dad!! As well as being an air raid shelter it was very useful as a dining table. Mom would put a table cloth over the shelter and we would eat our meals from this table. My favourite use for the table was when my friends came to visit. We would remove the table cloth and play various games, a paticular favourite was table tennis. A Morrsion shelter was great for playing table tennis on!!
