It鈥檚 a good idea to let people know about what the War was like, showing photos especially as people tend to forget. It is about 60 years ago since the first German POWs were here at High Garrett. I was one of the first to get here. Initially it was for Italian prisoners who were then moved out and I, with other German POWs, moved down from Scotland. I was a POW for 3 years and 2 months in all.
After the War my family were still in East Germany behind the Iron Curtain so I couldn鈥檛 go home. I was a POW until September 1947 and decided I would stay here. I worked on the land and eventually moved into engineering.
I met my wife in 1962 and we have lived in Braintree ever since.
