I remember my family sitting by the radio, waiting to hear that war was declared. This was Sunday, September 3rd.

I lived in Bridgewater and I was 15. I worked at the cellophane factory and when was broke out they took workers out of the factory and put in munitions.

I was sent to the drawing office and was a tracer. We had very few bombs in Bridgewater - we were lucky.

A lot of people from the Channel Islands were evacuated to Bridgewater after the islands were invaded. That's how I met my husband - his family were evacuated from Jersey.
