We arrived at Paddington station with name and evacuee information labels around our necks. We boarded the train to Newton Abbot. When we arrived at our destination we were taken to what I think was a large room in the town hall. People arrived to choose an evacuee to take home with them.

The family that I stayed with had a daughter the same age as myself and I found I was very lucky as there was someone my own age.
My fondest memory, was once a week they had tripe and I loathed this event, they were very kind and they would give me the only egg of their ration.
