In 1941 when I was 3 years old, I lived in N.W.London and I attended The Meads school in Edgeware, one morning the school was assembled and we were marched down to Mill Hill Rly Stn, there we were put on a train, there was a lot of crying by the children and the parents seeing them off, I had my gan with me, we had no idea where we were going,at last the train moved off, it seemed like a great adventure, eventually we got to Huddersfield and we were taken by bus to a Church, we spent the night in the Church, and next day, local people came round to pick out which children they would take, we had to all stand in a line, a middle aged couple picked me out and took me to their home, they were very good to me, although at first they couldnt understand my accent, or me theirs..I stayed with them for 2 years,I then returned to London just in time for the buzz bombs, my only regret is that I cant remember the couples name or exactly where they lived...
