My Grandad John and his friends Charlie and Allen on 2/3/44
My name is Ashleigh Grigg from Marden High School and I am entering this story on behalf of my grandad John Grigg known as Jack Grigg. He fully understands the terms and conditions of the website.
He was born in 1924 into a mining family in Prudhoe, Northumberland. When he was at school he passed what was called an 11+ exam to get into grammar school but his parents couldn鈥檛 afford it. He left school at 14 to start working at the local co-op as a butcher. When he was 18 in 1942 he got enlisted to join the R.A.F. He did his basic air training in different places in the country for R.A.F Padgate and eventually was posted to North Africa. My Grandfather was a aircrew man in a airplane recovery team where he spent the rest of the war, apart from when he was on leave in Northern Cyprus mainly in Kyrenia and Farmagusta.
My grandad got into trouble a couple of times when he was in North Africa as he messed on and had a laugh with his best mates Charlie and Allen. When he returned home in 1945 he returned to the co-op where he met his future wife Margaret who he married in 1951.
