"Our National Savings we took,
Our teacher gave us a little book."

You took sixpence or 2 and sixpence to school and that was the war effort.
Your mother gave you something each week and you would save.
It was a good habit to get into.

I remember all the iron railings going from everyones houses for the war effort and they were never replaced.
We lived in a council house and all the council houses at that time used to have iron railings.
