I was born in Mosside, Manchester in 1939. I remember micky Mouse gas masks and playing in the air raid shelters. when the sirens went we were made to sit in the hall behind the door as we didn't use the shelter. A bomb dropped just up the road which caused our ceiling to cave in and I was covered in rubble. After that we all had to sleep in one bedroom.
When the electricity was off the shops on the way to school were lit with candles. our best day was when one of the barrage balloons came loose and we had fun swinging from the chain, until they came and secured it.
