One Wednesday night during last year, we had a blitz every time a bomb came down I screamed and cried I was very frightened. All the men shouted ‘duck there is one coming down’ and we all bent down on our hands and knees. They had to fetch me a drink of water. The school down our street got a fire and a number of people who lived near the school came into our shelter. When the All Clear sounded we all gave a sigh of relief.
When I went home I had no home to go to but there was a kind old lady that said she would put us up for the rest of the night. I thought about what we had gone through that night I felt as though I could just go across to Germany and punch Hitler and his Nazi gang in the jaw. On the Thursday nights blitz I slept right through it so I have not much to say about that, however there were a lot injured and killed. We flitted into Daltry Street and there we had thirteen windows out.
