My gran was trapped under the stairs when St Peters, Newcastle was bombed. She had head injuries.
A big warehouse near Manors/New Bridge Street burned for weeks because there was sugar stored there.
My husband was a POW and helped build the bridge on the River Kwai.
One of the big guns shot down a plane and my dad shouted for us to come and see.
Everybody went wild when the War ended. We used to hear Lord Haw Haw on radio and hear what had gone on elsewhere. There was very little fruit and vegetables available. Everybody helped everybody.
