At night, the Americans on bicycles, used to come up from the Lands End direction, through what we called Bosarven(?) fields. For all I know they came every night but they certainly came on Saturday evenings. When we were in school we would see groups of soldiers on route marches coming from the St. Just direction. Ten to a dozen men would be on one side of the road and about one hundred yards further up, on the other side, there would be another ten to twelve men, all heading for Pendeen or St. Ives. As they passed the school they would throw us chewing gum and chocolates.
