Frank Ferris' story:
At 10.30 p.m. one evening in September 1941 a German bomber flying east was trying to hit the Redhill to Tonbridge railway line. A goods train was passing at the time. One bomb dropped in the field behind the "Brickmakers' Arms" Public House, the second bomb dropped in the garden of Drewshearne Farmhouse. The farmer was on the roof replacing tiles in the moonlight. He was blown from the roof into a shrub in the garden. The third bomb dropped in a gateway opposite our house. No damage was done to the house but all my Dad's brussel sprouts laid flat on the ground. The fourth bomb dropped harmlessly to the south of the railway. The fifth and last bomb dropped to the north of the railway. During this time, the goods train had stopped and one of the local railway men walked down the line to ensure that the line was clear. The train could then proceed.
