I lived on Southy Hill, when the land mine was dropped by parachute. 6 houses were bombed, 3 complete families died along with my father. We were in an Anderson shelter at the time and we were taken to Sicey Avenue rest centre at about 10pm on March 14th 1941.
I went to Southy Green school and can remember all the shelters under there. My Mum's house was used for home service, therefore several children were taught downstairs.
I have also stayed in the London shelters in Clapham, overnight whilst visiting the festival of Britain in 1951.
At age 11 or 12 I was playing on the derilict bomb site. We kicked a boot to find it was still attached to a foot, it had been preserved by the leather. The police came and cordoned off the area, then not long after the houses were rebult.
