As children during the war, Sheila and I played on the recreation ground at the top of our road, one day we took Sheila's baby sister in the pushchair, but when about three quarters of the way across this field, a lone plane suddenly, without any warning, appeared over the top of houses along the field edge, on seeing us, it swooped down and started fireing it's guns, I remember seeing bits of earth fly into the air as bullets hit the ground, terrified, we left the baby and ran like hell back home where my mother comforted us and Sheila's mother ran back to the field where the baby, thankfully unhurt, was still sitting in the pushchair. (NO Air Raid warning was given before or after this attack).
Although not a nice experience,It was comforting to know we were not the only people to have experienced this horror.
