A friend of mine recently told me that as a small boy in the war, he remembered having 2 RAF men at each house on his street for billeting. One of the RAF men was a black man, and it was decided to billet him with the vicar, who was a good Christian man. The next year, the vicar's wife gave birth to a black baby, which was dutifully accepted by the vicar!
