I can remember this evening quite vividly. The cul de sac where I lived had had the usual street party that afternoon which was fine and sunny. Later that evening there was a big party with a bonfire immediately outside our house. I remember wearing something in red, white and blue. The thing I recall most clearly was that at nine o'clock that evening we realised that all the grownups were so busy singing and dancing that no-ne was going to put us to bed. There were about eight families living in ur cul de sac and we joined in singing the war time favourite songs. My party piece was You are My sunshine which I suppose I sang.
