I was in the Land Army in Wales, Rhyddimovein near Mold. I was living at Royston when I got called up at 18 years of age.
We mostly did threshing in threshing boxes. There were 4 girls and 2 men and we used to go round to different farms. We were stationed at a big house in it’s own grounds. It had a big drive with lots of trees. There were a good few girls there.
Sometimes they had to cycle or were driven to work. I didn’t like field work. The farmers’ wives sometimes invited us in for dinner otherwise it was sandwiches in a tin box,
One of the girls married a man from Ryhddimovein. It had two pubs and a church. I enjoyed it but came back to Royston to marry.
My father lost his hand in the First World War.
