This story was submitted to the Peoples War website by Lancashire_Remembers on behalf of Bethan, Henry and Pauline Harvey with their permission.

It was during April that he went. My friend's dads had gone away too so i knew that it was only a matter of time until my dad went. I was only 9 at the time. My dad was called Henry and he had recieved a telegram telling him that he would be called up. The army were needing more men due to the amount that were becoming injured and were being killed. When i woke up on the Saturday in April i saw that my dads bags were next to the door and he was in his uniform. I knew that the time had come for him to go. We all sat down for breakfast and my mum, Pauline told me that dad would be leaving today to go and fight for his country and i wouldnt see him for a long time.
