I lived on the outskirts of Liverpool and our home and school were in West Derby. I was the eldest of five children and we all walked to school together.

One day in school my class was given a surprise just for one class. I was the age of 12. Surprisingly we were told that we would be going to stay for some time in a convent in Pantasaph. Our parents came with us and saw that we were grouped in a church hall where several local people came to choose two or more girls.

We were to continue with our studies in the convent with some of our own school teachers.

During the time we were there, several students were very homesick and went home. I'm afraid that a few were not in very good circumstances.

I must say that I and my friend were with an aged couple who looked after us very well.
The girl who shared the house with me was feeling the loss of her parents and was one of the first to go home.

After several months as more girls went home we all were told that our own school will be ready to continue.

The teachers and pupils were very pleased to be going back to lovely Broughton Hall.
