This was founded in 1991 to preserve the history of Boulton Paul Aircraft. The association is base at the Smiths works just outside Billbrook, which is the old BPA works. Over a period of six years up to 2002 we built a Defiant Fighter Aircraft. During the war years there were 1062 Defiants built many of which saw action over the Dunkirk beaches. The aircraft brought down 88 German planes with a loss of 32 Defiants. The replica we have built was with 264 Squadron flying on No. L7005. This aircraft had 13 victories to its credit, until it was finally shot down in the Battle of Britain. The full-scale replica was built using only original wheels, tail wheel and gun turret. We manufactured the rest. It was completed on the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in the summer of 2002. The Heritage Centre got an award from the South Staffs Council last autumn to the work alone in preserving the history of the Boulton Paul Company.
