George had only been on at he Furness Withy boat for a few trips when he was told that he needed a change of venue.
The Steward said, " Been to War laddie?"
George travelled from Liverpool to the dry dock in Birkenhead to join a ship called 'Marshall'.He was there for six weeks before then sailing to Cardiff. There were no squaddies on board only stores. Cargo included butter and kippers.
He did then travel from Cardiff to Gibralta carrying squaddies.
From Gibralta he went on to Malta.
George made friends with a pal called Iggy and wonders if he is still around.
