During the war many things were rationed, including sweets. I remember that I was given just one Mars Bar each week. This I cut into 8 slices. I had one slice everyday but 2 slices on Sunday.
Oranges were also difficult to get because they came from overseas but I remember one Christmas when my Mum managed to buy an orange. As well as me and my parents my Grandparents, Aunt and Uncle were with us. We all had a share of the orange, one orange between seven people! It was delicious!
‘Coughs and sneezes spread diseases’ was a wartime slogan which reminds me of an unpleasant memory. It was most unpleasant going to the pictures because we were sprayed with DDT from a flit gun sprayer.
