鈥淩obert was in the Walker TA, the 77th Royal Field Artillery based at South St Greenock and was killed at Dunkirk. He was a joiner with McEwans鈥 and was a Corporal and finished up a Bombardier, on the big guns.

A couple of the men who were with him came to visit my mother 鈥 they said they had seen him on the beach but they could tell her nothing else about what happened to him.

We were told he was missing in action and then later my mother received a letter to say he was presumed dead. We never had a funeral or service, my mother always said he would come back 鈥 she believed that maybe after the war he would turn up somewhere. We put his name on the headstone when my mother and father died鈥
