My husband was in the forces - I was directed to munitions, Alfred Herbert in Cross Road. One night the sirens went just as we were coming out of work. We got to Foleshill Road: there were lots of incendiaries - the wardens had to put them out - a clothes shop at the General Wolfe went up in flames. I was a bit scared myself, but my younger companion was very fright ened so I had to keep up. Sometimes we had to work with our helmets on - you could hear the shrapnel hitting the roof. The night of the Big Blitz we were again just coming of work when the sirens went - this time I decided to go on home. Herberts got hit that night. it wasn't a nice time for anyone. My husband was ready to go to France when it fell, so he didn't go abroad. We both came through all right.
