This story was submitted to the People's War site by Lin Freeman of Radio Derby CSV on behalf of Ben of Derby and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

1. When called up I served as a Radio Officer with Alfred Holt and Co., Liverpool (Shipping Company).
On D-Day + 3 we arrived and anchored for 3-4 days off Arramanche, Normandy to discharge supplies for the troops, and then returned to Liverpool.

2. Some time later, we carried stores to North Africa, and were in the harbour with 5 or 6 other ships when one plane, presumably from Italy, successfully dropped a bomb on us. No injuries, but ship immobilised. We were evacuated to Gibraltar and then to UK as D.B.S (Distressed British Seamen).
Other voyages uneventful.
