this concerns an air raid at Birkenhead in 1942.
i Was in acinema with my parents when the house lights came up and the manager announced that an air raid was taking place.
He gave us the option of remaining or going to an air raid shelter,my parents decided to go to the air raid shelter.
During the ensueing journey to the shelter we were continually being showered with shrapnel from the anti aircraft guns.We made it to the shelter safely enough but next morning in daylight we only discoverd how lucky we had been when we saw the size of the pieces that fallen out of the night sky.
