This is for my grandfather who served in the royal artillery throughout north africa and the middle east he remembers sitting in a trench at the front with a sheet of bullets wizzing overhead and anything held above the trench would have been cut in two also he was captured four times and made a p.o.w but he managed to escape each time but the one thing that stuck with him for many years was when he was at the front and his mate got wounded so he decided to pick him up over his shoulder and carry him back to the first aid post when he got there he felt his back was wet thinking it was sweat from the heat of the desert he just laid his mate down only to be told he was dead it was not sweat but blood and his mate had his head shot clean off his shoulders while he had been carrying him he did not tell this story very often .But one he did was that he got to test the guns for H.M.S HOOD before they were fitted + a few more battleships he was also on board when they fired a broadside and after he said he did not want to go on any ship again after half the deck went under the water .
