I was a young teacher and firewatched overnight at Copleston School in Ipswich once a week. One night I was on my way across the playing field when the air raid warning went and I heard aircraft. When I reached the school it was in darkness. The caretaker took me down to look after me in his air raid shelter.

I remember being invited to Elmswell Air Base to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra together with Dinah Shore singing all the 1940's songs. This was to commemorate the 200th Mission flown by the Squadron at this base. It was a memory I shall never forget.
