I remember when I heard the news of the victory because I was on the roof of the school.
I was evacuated to scrapping black-out material off a sky light and I was so excited that I dropped my chissle.
I had a really rather quiet war. One of the things that I think I remember was lying on my back on a Sunny afternoon and watching all the gliders being towed across to Ireland, this went on all afternoon. The gliders were carrying troops and were released over the target. My father was away for the whole of the five years.
