Warrant Officer Class 2. All the time I was abroad, I was concerned that I did not recieve any letters from my wife or family. Sad to say, a lot of this went on. The failure of ones respected wife not appreciating how important these letters were. When I returned home after being nearly four years abroad, my wife didn't want to know me. In fact, I was so heartbroken because of this I nearly committed suicide.
I served in North Africa, Sicilly and Italy. During my time abroad,I witnessed chaps who unfortunately had been killed where in the process of being buried; no coffin, no union jack draped over the coffin but simply a blanket and cable tied top and bottom. The remains of a possible guardsman, would simply be reffered to as a small parcel.
I made many strong freindships but unfortunately at an age of 86, there are not many left. My friend is 90 and still rings.
